Renowned Malayalam film director KG George dies at 77

Kochi: Noted Malayalam filmmaker KG George passed away on Sunday. He was 77. George, a recipient of the Kerala government's prestigious JC Daniel award, died at an old age home in Kakkanad, Kochi. He was known for his offbeat films of the 70s and 80s, based on revolutionary and political satire themes.

During his 40 years long career, George directed 19 films including popular works like Swapnadanam, Oolkatal, Kolangal, Mela, Irakal, Yavanika, Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback, Adaminte Vaariyellu, Kathakku Pinnil, Mattoral, Panchavadi Palam and Ee Kanni Koodi. Panchavadi Paalam is the most famous political satire in Malayalam.

He was undergoing treatment for a stroke. He is survived by wife Selma George and two children.

Some of his popular works include Swapnadanam, Oolkatal, Kolangal, Mela, Irakal, Yavanika, Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback, Adaminte Vaariyellu, Kathakku Pinnil, Mattoral, Panchavadi Palam, Ee Kanni Koodi among others.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of the veteran filmmaker.
