Short-tempered? Me?

Rebecca, the short-tempered Anagha in Mizhi Randilum is an easy-going girl in real life.

Rebecca was just leaving college when we rang her up. The first year BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) student at St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, she is known as Anagha of Mizhi Randilum to television buffs. It is Rebecca’s second serial and she is indebted to her teachers and friends in college for helping her pursue studies and passion simultaneously. “They are very supportive. My friends help me with notes,” says Rebecca. “Not just that, they watch my serial and give suggestions on improving my acting.”

Rebecca’s acting career began at a very young age. She was studying in the fourth standard when she acted in an advertisement for a jewellery shop.

Later she was seen in a prominent role in the serial Kunjikoonan, an Asianet serial. Kunjikoonan was about three children eloping during a vacation and Rebecca appeared as the character Asin in it. Her first movie was Thiruvambadi Thamban when she was in Class IX. “I played the daughter of Jayaram’s brother in that movie,” she recalls.

Rebecca doesn’t come from a family of actors. “My father is a businessman and mother a housewife. The only acting connection I have is that my grandfather was a theatre artiste. I inherited the talent from him,” says Rebecca who put her passion on hold after Thiruvambadi Thamban to concentrate in her studies. “But I knew I would turn to acting at some point in my life because it is my passion. The offer to act in Mizhi Randilum came after I completed plus two.”

Mattakalyanam is the core theme of Mizhi Randilum. “Anagha is a possessive, short-tempered, emotional, and bold character. It was a tad challenging for me to portray her, especially because I was facing the camera after a gap. However, I fell in line easily with the help of my team,” says the actor from Thrissur.

Off screen, Rebecca is an easy-going, adventurous, and happy-go-lucky person who loves music. “I love going for trekking. I have been to the forests in Athirappally, Peechi, and Kodaikanal. I also love riding bullets with my cousins. I learnt bullet riding from them,” she chuckles.
