Many people had objected to the casting of Julie who shot to fame with the Jallikattu protest on the Marina sands and later with her stint in the Big Boss reality show. The film makers, however, have gone ahead with the shooting of the film DR S Anitha MBBS. The film’s story is based on the student Anitha, the girl from a poor background who committed suicide protesting against the NEET exam.
Julie was also trolled on social media with caustic comments on her handle when she announced her decision to act in the film a few months ago. Many felt it was inappropriate to choose Julie to play Anitha, who gave her life for the sake of aspiring medical students. Their objection was based on the thinking that while Anitha sacrificed her life, Julie is a bogus fighter.
Julie herself was least perturbed by the criticism. She was ready to plunge more into films after having already bagged the Amman flick. Talking about his venture, director Ajay says, “A lot of people dissuaded me from casting Julie for this role. But they will know why I chose her after watching the movie. Also, the film is meant to impart a larger message rather than commercial motive. My aim is that the fate of Anitha and Prathiba (who died after she failed in NEET) should not be repeated again. I am confident that the film will bag a national award.”
