It reminded them of their own college days: Omar
Amongst the wave of revolution Kammatti Paadam is creating in theatres, there is one movie that is silently winning hearts — Happy Wedding directed by newcomer Omar. Despite not having any godfather in the industry or formal training to become a filmmaker, Omar has made a mark. So, what is Happy Wedding all about? “The story is much like the name itself.
The lead character Hari, played by Siju Wilson, is not a typical hero. He lacks confidence and is very soft-hearted. He makes a quick emotional connect to all the women he associates with. Hari has a lot of concepts about marriage and the story is basically about his journey towards wedlock.
It is a fun-oriented family entertainer,” says Omar. About Omar’s journey into filmmaking, he says, “I was always crazy about films. So now, when I got the time and opportunity, I wrote a story and directed it. The movie is in fact inspired from three of my friends and incidents that happened in my college back in early 2000’s. I am yet to reveal this to one of them,” he laughs.
“I am basically a civil engineer and studied in Royal Engineering College, Thrissur, which was a major location of the movie. One of the characters is played by Soubin Shahir . The movie actually starts from the point where Soubin enters,” he says.
However, his biggest challenge was after the release. “Despite all the frenzy on Facebook and the popularity of talented actors like Soubin and Sharafuddin, people still prefer watching star kids. Normal viewers who have no access to internet do not see these actors as potential hit makers.”
Omar is currently being bombarded with praises for his efforts, but he owes it all to the actors. “I am getting messages and calls from random people who relate to the movie. Some of them, who are engineers, said it reminded them of their own college days. I am elated but I must add that movie happened mainly because of Soubin, Siju, Sharafuddin and Justin.”
