Adoor's casting coup: Dileep to romance Kavya
Veteran filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan is noted for selecting the subjects — from experimental to earthy to political for his films which have bagged accolades around the globe. But he has not tried his hands on a suspense subject so far. On Wednesday, he created such a scene, not for his film but on real life.
It was at Ernakulam Press Club that the award-winning director tried out such a ‘scene’ just before the announcement of his next film. Even when he reached the hall, no one had a clue about the lead actors. When asked about the actors, he chose to keep it as suspense.
Within minutes, the door of the conference hall opened and all the lensmen, who were present there, readied their cameras. Suddenly, actors Dileep and Kavya entered the hall and went to the dais from where the director was addressing the media. “Dileep and Kavya will essay the lead roles in my next film titled Pinneyum,” Adoor said. It is for the first time Dileep acts in an Adoor movie. “It is a blissful moment as this is my first chance to act under the direction of Adoor sir,” said Dileep.
When quizzed about the film, the director said, “It will be romantic film. As of now, I cannot reveal much about the subject. The shoot will begin from May 11. Thiruvananthapuram and Sasthamkotta in Kollam will be the major locations of Pinneyum.”
Kavya was found to be overwhelmed to act in Adoor’s film for the second time. “Earlier, I had acted in Adoor sir’s Naalu Pennungal. It was a great experience. We can act in his film without any preparations, as he knows how to make his actors perform according to the situation,” says Kavya.
It is after a gap of five years that Kavya teams up with Dileep. Akku Akbar’s Vellaripravinte Changathi was their last film together. Actors Srinda and Kukku Parameswaran were also present along with Adoor. Pinneyum, which has Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, KPAC Lalitha, Srinda and Ravi Vallathol in prominent roles, will be produced by Adoor Gopalakrishnan along with Baby Mathew Somatheeram.
