What's the worst thing that can happen to someone who really wants to sleep? It's surely sleeplessness and the fear of ghosts. Most of the people may have gone through such terrible insomniac nights. This thought led Jaswin Jose to his debut short film Feel Me. The short film has already acquired great responses and is being especially appreciated for its making and technical brilliance.
“Insomnia is what the protagonist deals with. The concept of the short film was developed from my own experience. Insomnia has troubled me and I had daunting thoughts like I'll die if I sleep. So I decided to develop the concept and added a horror element to the plot. The climax of the movie can either be interpreted as the protagonist's psychological imbalance or a creepy one. If it's psychological imbalance, he would've been experiencing the same for long,” says Jaswin. The plot of the short film is by Jaswin and the screenplay is written by Bibin Mohan. One aspect we notice about the short film is that except the protagonist's, the faces of other characters are not revealed. And they have no names
The scenes mainly pass through the dialogues of the characters and only the protagonist has the scope to express. “It was purposely done. If the protagonist’s face wasn’t revealed, the audience would have failed to connect with the short film. There is a scene in which two characters are carrying a wreath and they are discussing about one’s death. They both have entirely different views. When one talks good about the dead, the other blames her and her family. This is the way we are. So the characters are a reflection of us. We can imagine anyone in that place.” Neeraj Shajitha Anilan plays the protagonist and another important character is done by Jomol Joy.
The short film had good technical backing. Prakash Velayudhan, who cranked the camera for movies like Oru Mexican Aparatha, Lavakusha etc., handled the camera for the short film. “He was very supportive throughout. He liked the subject of Feel Me and that’s how he came into this project. He used to give us some good suggestions, too.” Feel Me is produced by Spring Tunes, a Facebook group, and Lonesterz Entertainment. “I’m a very active member of Spring Tunes. So, when the script was completed, they asked me to send it and that’s how they came to the production scene. It’s a collective effort, I must say.”
Jaswin has produced a short film which will be released by March. He is also planning to direct another short film after his production venture is released.
“Though I love scripting and direction, affinity is slightly towards production. So, producing the short film was like an industrial experience. I hope to debut in the big screen soon,” he wraps up.
