For years, Balachandra Menon stayed totally away from limelight until one day he came with Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum in 2014. One of the few filmmakers in Malayalam cinema, he has an era to claim for himself, with a rich oeuvre to speak volumes about the director he is. A comeback edition to call, he is making another movie titled Ennalum Sharat. Menon has gifted many fresh faces who later turned heroes and heroines in Malayalam cinema. This time too, he dares to experiment with new comers in his movie. There was an auditioning to find the male lead and the format is repeated in his hunt for the heroine as well. He has the credit for launching many successful female actors like Shobhana, Parvathy, Karthika, Annie alias Chitra and Nandini.
With a campus-oriented theme, the director returns to the genre after more than three-and-a-half decades of making Prema Geethangal. “The movie Prema Geethangal brought out the campus life in the 1980s whereas Ennalum Sharat speaks from the 2017 perspective. This is my second movie based entirely on a college campus. It was in Prema Geethangal that Shanavas got introduced as a male lead. With my latest movie also I hope to present a new face in Malayalam cinema,” says Menon.
