Mohanlal or Malayali’s dear Lalettan has just turned a year older. Since morning, wishes have been pouring in on social media from the who’s who in Malayalam cinema. That’s when an unusual member was spotted in the club. Guess who? Not an actor, anyway. It’s cricket’s swashbuckling hero, Virender Sehwag, who wished HBD to Lal in a tweet. “Heartiest birthday wishes to the king of Mollywood #HappyBirthday Mohanlal,” reads the tweet accompanied by a photo. Mohanlal was prompt to reply. In a little more than 30 minutes, he thanked with a reply tweet “@virendersehwag Thank you for the wishes :).
No need to explain how Lalettan fans made merry. Going by some of the early comments below the tweet, it is evident that the post had created quite a stir among those unfamiliar with south Indian or Malayalam cinema. The Lal fans had soon sprung in defence, introducing the uncrowned king of Malayalam cinema. It also included the titbit of him signing the mega-budget project, Mahabharata.
It looks like the actor is having a whale of a time. He has posted on his Facebook page a photo of birthday gifts from one Vijay S. Menon, which has a special cake made with him posing in Bhima’s costume jutting out of it. In two other boxes, there are cup cakes with his photographs from different movies on every piece.
Lal is at present shooting for the Lal Jose movie Velipadinte Pusthakam in Thiruvananthapuram where he essays the character Professor Idicula.
