The mother act in Pa Va

Muthumani will be playing a dual role in Sooraj Tom's Pa Va as the mother and sister of Murali Gopy's character.

It is not an easy feat for a girl studying in her 12th and a mere 16 years to play the role of a 35-year-old mother to two kids in a play staged in Greece. Yes, she was nervous yet she pulled it off.

That is Muthumani, the talented actor who has acted opposite actors like Mohanlal, Mammooty, Fahadh and Dileep and managed to carve a niche for herself. Her talent which shone in her childhood years found expression in theatre and later in her roles in films. Muthumani will be seen playing the dual roles of Murali Gopy’s sister and mother in the upcoming film Pa Va directed by Sooraj Tom.

The story of Pa Va was narrated to her in January and Muthumani explains why she accepted the film. “It was a very well-researched script about two friends Pappan and Varkey and the value given to human relationships. I feel the audience will leave the theatres with a big smile on their faces.” Muthumani is very excited about her role about which she says, “I act as Pappan's youngest sister who is a favourite of Murali Gopy's character. She is treated like a daughter as well as a sister probably because she resembles Pappan's mother a lot. I also get to play Murali Gopy's mother in the flashback where I wear a chattayyum mundum.”

Muthumani will be seen playing a mother yet again in the Sidhartha Siva directorial Kochauvva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho. This is again a role that she is looking forward to because it will be the revival of the Udaya Banner after a long hiatus and it will be her first working experience with the National Award-winning director. Muthumani says, “I play the mother to a schoolkid and though it may sound clichéd, it is a very different role from the other characters that I have done.” Right from Muthumani's first interview, she has always stressed that it is not the screen space that is important but her contribution to the role. She adds, “I would rather be a part of a good film.”

Theatre has and will always remain her first love but she ruefully says, “I want to do theatre but want to be a part of a good team.”
