Kerala High Court seeks CBI view on Kalabhavan Mani death probe

The government had earlier in a statement submitted that no evidence of Mani being poisoned had been found.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday asked the CBI to inform whether it can take over the case on the controversial death of actor Kalabhavan Mani. The court issued the directive on a petition filed by Mani’s brother K.R. Ramakrishnan seeking a CBI probe. The government had earlier in a statement submitted that no evidence of Mani being poisoned had been found.

The government said the police had thoroughly probed his financial dealings, the close associates' enmity towards him, and his association with certain gangs. The conduct of regular visitors to his outhouse at Chalakudy had also been verified. The police had submitted that Kalabhavan Mani had assets worth Rs 20 crore. He was having severe cirrhosis of liver, jaundice, adrenal granuloma (tuberculosis), kidney dysfunction and type two diabetes, the police informed the court.
