Malayalam actress abduction: Remand period extended to January

Actor abduction case trial faces delay.

Kochi: The Angamaly First Class Judicial court on Tuesday extended the remand period of six accused in the actor abduction case including main accused Sunil Kumar till January one. This even as the police failed to produce them before the magistrate despite sending them summons. In their personal absence, the court refused to hand over copy of the chargesheet to their counsels.

Meanwhile, three of the accused, identified as Charley, Vishnu and Sanal appeared before the magistrate during the day and obtained copy of the chargesheet. Actor Dileep, eighth accused in the case, had appeared before the court on December 15 and collected the chargesheet copy. He had cited pre-engagement due to film-related commitments. Advocates Pratheesh Chacko and Raju Joseph, the remaining accused in the case, had also earlier collected copies of the charge sheet.

“The cops failed to present the accused before the court today. They did it on purpose as part of their attempt to extend the case trial,” Tojy, counsel of main accused Sunil Kumar, told reporters. As per the additional chargesheet, Dileep had conspired with main accused Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni to commit the crime on February 17 last. The SIT enlisted over 355 witnesses in the case including Dileep’s ex-wife Manju Warrier and wife Kavya Madhavan.
