Playing many roles: Vijay Babu
Vijay Babu narrates it all in five minutes. Of nearly everything that’s new with him but mostly about the short film Kalpitham that will be screened to an invited audience in Thiruvananthapuram today. Producer-cum-actor Vijay plays the main role in the film.
“This is how it came about,” he says, as he rushes to attend a meeting. “The director of the film — Binu Raj — is my school mate. And when he told me the story, I thought it has social relevance.” The film is 20-minutes long and looks at what Vijay calls ‘the other side of the story’. “If there is a crime, and if we don’t get the actual culprit, then we arrest an innocent person,” he explains.
“We proclaim that an innocent man should never be punished even if a thousand criminals escape. This story is looking at that side of the story." Adds Binu Raj: “It is about how everything is sensationalised today. It is about the plight of someone who gets involved in a crime.”
Vijay has also been busy in his role as a producer. “We try something new every year. We are going into television production this time,” he says. He is also waiting for the film Aadupoovu, the sequel to Jayasurya’s Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu, where he and Sandra play producers again, under the banner of Friday Film House. “That should be in September.”
Acting wise, he says he has just finished playing a surprise character in a film directed by John Varghese and produced by Megamedia. “Since it is a surprise character, I can’t reveal my role or the name of the film,” he says and rushes off to his meeting.
