Malayalam actress abduction: Bindu files plaint against cyber blaming of victim

She alleges a planned campaign to defame and malign the persons who came forward to support the victim.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mahila Congress president Bindu Krishna, who is doubling as the Kollam DCC chief, has lodged a complaint with the police chief against "cyber crimes" committed by different persons in connection with the kidnap and assault of a film star. Ms Krishna, who says that the campaign managers of Dileep were abusing media persons as well, sought his intervention to initiate steps to identify those behind it and book them under the provisions of IPC and Information Technology Act, 2000.

She points out that when the investigation is going on the sexual assault, there is a massive campaign on the social media, abusing police, social workers and above all, the victim herself. "The intention is to create an impression that the 11th accused who is in judicial custody is innocent and not connected to the incident," she says. She alleges a planned campaign to defame and malign the persons who came forward to support the victim. Other victims who got the confidence to reveal the incidents happened to them after this are now afraid to do it due to the abusive social media.
