Mammootty's Maamaankam
It’s raining period movies in Malayalam and here comes the share from Mammootty. Wishing his close to 38 lakh followers on Facebook a happy Diwali, he broke a big news too. “Happy to be part of Maamaankam which chronicles the journey of the legendary Chaaverukal of Valluvanadu,” he announces. “The biggest film I have done so far and it has an outstanding screenplay by debutante director Sajeev Pillai, who has written it after 12 years of research. The film is set in the late 17th century,’” the actor writes. The title is revived from the 1979 Prem Nazir movie and he duly acknowledges its makers.
“We are grateful to the legendary Navodaya for their large-heartedness in allowing us to use their prestigious title Maamaankam,” the post reads. Going by the update, a huge star cast coupled with technicians of international repute can be expected. Under the banner of Kavya Films, Venu Kunnampilly is producing the movie. The news has come close on the heels of Mohanlal being roped in for a mega budget project Mahabharata of ad-man turned director V.A. Shrikumar Menon. R.S. Vimal’s Prithviraj movie Karnan is set to start rolling. Rosshan Andrrews’ Nivin Pauly-starrer Kayamkulam Kochunni is also currently underway. Whereas Tovino Thomas has signed the film Chengazhi Nambiar.
