Malayalam actress assault case: Chargesheet against Dileep likely soon

An investigating officer told DC that SIT will file additional chargesheet with new evidence after collating all scientific analysis results.

Kochi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which probing into the actor abduction case, would submit additional chargesheet with new evidence, mostly scientific ones, before the Angamaly Magistrate court "soon". An investigation officer associated with the probe said the "drafting of the chargesheet is in final stages, but we can't say the same will be submitted this weekend as we still await certain results which is crucial for listing out new evidence not revealed so far."

"However, we don't want to delay it further. Once the full scientific analysis results are out, we'll compete the process and submit the additional chargesheet without delay," he said. The SIT aims to close all loopholes and would list out scientific evidences and also the witness statements from over 20 persons from the film industry separately in the chargesheet. Sources said the investigation team needed to have solid proof case if it wanted to arraign actor Dileep, facing conspiracy charges, as the second accused in the case in the additional chargesheet.

However, cops are yet to recover the mobile phone used to record alleged sexual assault of a female actor on February 17 inside a car in Kochi. "We'll inform the court that the probe over mobile phone is still on," the officer clarified. The investigation officers were originally planning to submit additional chargesheet by October 8, before completion of 90 days of actor Dileep in police and judicial remand, to avoid him being granted statutory bail. However, the SIT suffered a setback when the High Court granted bail to the actor. The cops then focused on collection of all evidences possible rather than rushing with submitting the chargesheet.
