Malayalam actress assault case: Cops quiz junior advocate
Kochi: The Special Investigation Team probing the actor abduction case seized the memory card used to record visuals of the attack from a junior lawyer of Pratheesh Chacko, the former defence counsel of Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni, key accused in the case. However, the data on the card, expected to form the vital evidence, was found to have been deleted. The SIT sent it for forensic examination to ascertain whether it contained original footage of actor being abused on February 17.
With Pratheesh Chacko, the former defence counsel of Sunil Kumar aka Pulsar Suni, going into hiding to avoid a possible arrest, the police interrogated his junior Raju Joseph at the Aluva police club on Sunday evening. Earlier, Suni had said he had handed over the memory card to Chacko on the direction of actor Dileep which made the cops go after the lawyer.
According to sources, the cops now plan to trace Chacko and Appunni, Dileep’s personal manager, at the earliest so as to dig out more information on the conspiracy in the case. “We’ve got some lead on their whereabouts and hopefully we will make progress in a day or two,” they said. An anticipatory bail petition filed by Chacko is set to be considered by the High Court on Tuesday. The cops are also trying to trace the mobile phone used to record the assault. Though they carried out a raid on the house of Dileep, it yielded no result.
The police is visiting the old shooting sites of Dileep’s films and seeking the details from local people. The aim is to get selfies or mobile pictures showing the presence of Suni at the venues. The SIT on the other day recorded secret statements of two persons who said they had found Suni speaking to Dileep on the sets of ‘George Ettan’s Pooram’. Meanwhile, the Kerala State Women’s Commission has sent letters to its counterpart in Tamil Nadu as well as to the public relations department there seeking urgent action against a section of Tamil media for carrying the name and photograph of the actress.
