Soumya Sadanandan dons director's hat

A year ago she directed a documentary called Chembai

It looks like a neatly organised pattern, laid out brick by brick. Soumya Sadanandan aka Sou had at first assisted in films, then acted — you’d remember the little sister of Namitha Pramod in Ormayundo Ee Mukham — then engaged in direction. A year ago she directed a documentary called Chembai — My Discovery of a Legend and now she is writing the script of a feature film that she will also be directing.

“It is a rom-com,” she says. She has earlier written a script, but that’s not become a movie yet. “This will be my directorial debut in feature films and I plan to make a very ‘practical’ film — not chase stars who wouldn’t have dates. I want to make a film that is easily possible and I am in talks with some artistes. It will be shot in Fort Kochi, in a way that Fort Kochi is not typically shown in films. That notion was earlier broken in the film Annayum Rasoolum. I hope to start filming it this year.”
