Mollywood at its best
Kismath
Director: Shanavas K. Bavakkutty
Producer: Shailaja Manikandan
Cast: Shane Nigam, Sruthy Menon
Kismath discusses a love story of a Dalit woman and a Muslim boy and the aftermath of the relationship. Realistic treatment of the subject makes this film outstanding. It is glad to see that the makers attempted to picturise a real life story without adding any so-called cinematic elements. Director Shanavas could show justice to his work, which made the film one of the best recent times.
Action Hero Biju
Director : Abrid Shine
Producer : Pauly Junior Pictures and Full on Studios
Cast : Nivin Pauly, Anu Emmanuel
Though many cop stories have been made in Malayalam, this film is not conceived in the usual pattern. Here the director has shown the courage to recreate the ambience of a real police station and an episode from the life of a police officer. Even though there is no proper story, they could manage to make the film interesting by adding good incidents. I should say that though they attempted a realistic film, some unrealistic episodes also got into the story.
Guppy
Director : Johnpaul George
Producer : E4 Entertainment
Cast : Tovino Thomas, Chethanlal
The interesting element of Guppy is its narration. The director opts to elaborate the story from the viewpoint of a boy. The story narrates the issues in our system in an interesting pattern. Though the film was a bit lengthy, it is one of the best of last year.
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam
Director: Khalid Rahman
Producer: August Cinema
Cast : Asif Ali, Rejisha Vijayan
Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is one of the best romantic-dramas that hit the screens last year. Though it is a romantic subject, the novelty in its presentation made it special. The director could bring out an excellent film without any cinematic behaviour. Each and every moment in the film was natural. But I do not feel that there is any specialty in the love track or the story.
Aby
Director : Sreekanth Murali
Producer : Little Big Films
Cast : Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese
The film narrates the life of Aby, whose dream since childhood has been to fly. Normally, we consider it as a dream that cannot be fulfilled. But here, he chases the dream. This film definitely inspires others and gives a message that we can achieve our aim, if we pursue it.
Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol
Director : Jibu Jacob
Producer : Sophia Paul
Cast : Mohanlal, Meena
This film deals with an interesting concept — Love in the life of a couple. The film shows the importance of love in the life of a middle-aged couple. Again it is the novelty of the subject that makes the movie different.
