KOZHIKODE: Sudheer Krishna is not just a clerk in the city police commissioner office here, but a person with a social vision that he expresses through unconventional films. He has already produced two films-'Oru Nerkazhcha' with a message against narcotics, and 'Katha Kathakaran' about the rehabilitation of mental patients. He has come out with a third one,' Pennoruthi,' that deals with women's empowerment.
Health Minister K.K. Shylaja and actor Manju Warrier will officially inaugurate the first screening of the film at the Sree Narayana Centenary Hall here on Sunday. The film has been funded by a non- profit organisation, 'Knowledge Tree.' Actors like Ansiba and Rajesh Hebbar and noted drama artist Suresh Babu have donned the major roles in it which was shot in Wayanad. 'Pennoruthi' questions whether a woman needs protection or a social attitude that sees her as an individual.
Sudheer's passion for filmmaking was made into a reality with the support of the police department and the district legal services authority. "I have dreamt of films since childhood and have also done minor roles in films like Breaking News, Red Wine and Sir CP. “The department entrusted me to make films for it realising my passion," he said. 'Oru Nerkazhcha' is still being screened in several schools in the district. "Pennoruthi' questions those who say women need protection, as I believe they should be treated as individuals rather than giving them a lot of safety points. It is a shame that women need protection from men," he said.
