Pravasi Film Festival on NRIs kickstarts in Kozhikode

The PPF was launched by a group of non- resident Indians seven years ago.

KOZHIKODE: The seventh edition of the Pravasi Film Festival (PFF) featuring the short films taken by NRIs was inaugurated by corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran at Mananchira Sports Council Hall here on Saturday. The PPF was launched by a group of non- resident Indians seven years ago providing a platform to NRI film-makers to showcase their works and also interact with the masses and film personalities in India.

The festival will screen a wide range of feature films, short films and documentary films by NRI directors and will also conduct special sessions on the works of selected film-makers. The PFF has also arranged interactive sessions with these directors to share their experiences and narrate the tale of their cultural and cinematic journey across varied lands and diverse cultures and their achievements.

Mr Abdul Nazar, one of the organisers, said, “the Pravasi Film Festival has tried to bridge the gap between the NRIs and their motherland. It also provides an ideal platform for NRIs to express their issues, problems, emotions and longings. Indians settled elsewhere can come forth and talk about their cherished ideas, sorrows, highs and lows through the powerful medium of cinema. We hope to showcase the best of short films with social relevance made by these directors, sparing time from their busy work schedule,” he said.
