Malayalam film industry to come to a halt on December 16
Kochi: Signaling another crisis in the film industry, forums of producers and distributors have decided to stop production of Malayalam films and distribution of other films from December 16 in protest against the decision of the exhibitors to cut the share of revenue from films to producers. A decision to this effect which is set to affect the release of 20 films was taken at a meeting of the producers and distributors here on Monday. Currently the 60 percent of the revenue in first week of release and 55 percent in rest weeks is given to producers by exhibitors in air conditioned movie halls while in non-a/c halls this is 65 percent in first week and 55 percent in rest weeks.
Exhibitors have decided that from December 16 onwards, this will be reduced to 52 and 47 percent respectively in a/c halls and 57 and 50 percent respectively in non-a/c halls. The producers say this is unacceptable for them. The meeting of the associations of distributors and producers also decided to complete the production works of ongoing films. The meeting also demanded to implement e-ticketing in all movie halls. It demanded implementation of the recommendations of the Adoor Gopalakrishnan Committee.
