For Malayalees, Dileesh Pothan is more than just a two-film-old director. There might not be another director who enjoys such boundless love of movie buffs. This humble man has brought home two National Awards for Best Feature Film in Malayalam – the first was in 2016 for his debut film Maheshinte Prathikaram and this time, for Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum.
When the awards were announced, the actor-director was in Erattupetta, on the sets of his friend Amal Neerad’s directorial in which he is acting. In his calm voice, Pothan expressed joy over the win. “We had hoped to be considered, but the award comes as a great happiness. This is a motivation to continue making films and this makes me more responsible,” he says. So, when do we get to see the next Pothettan brilliance? “Next year,” he says. Hope he makes it a hat-trick!
