Soubin Shahir gets a new look

After the witty Crispin in Maheshinte Prathikaram, Soubin will be seen as a Vijay fan and in a different get-up in Darwinte Parinamam.

Those who have watched the trailer of Prithviraj’s upcoming film Darwinte Parinamam, which is getting a good response, cannot easily forget the get-up of Soubin Shahir, who mesmerised film buffs with the role of Crispin in Maheshinte Prathikaram. It is for the first time that the actor, who is noted for his comic appearances, will be seen wearing with a wig.

When quizzed about his role in the film, he says “My character’s name is Willy, younger brother of Chemban Vinod’s Darwin. As you can see in the trailer, he is a huge fan of actor Vijay. Along with Vijay films, he follows Telugu films too. His main aim is to become an actor in such films.”

Soubin says it was the director’s demand to fix a wig for this character. “When I first heard this demand, I felt happy that it is for the first time I came with such a look. I felt it as one of the interesting characteristics of this role,” he says.
It was Prithviraj who suggested Soubin’s name for this role. “I have been friends with Prithviraj from my days as an assistant director. I have worked in several films in which he had acted and it was he who called me to become an assistant of Santhosh Sivan sir in Urumi. But it is in Darwin that I act along with Prithvi for the first time,” says the actor who has yet another release in March — Dulquer Salman’s Kali.

In Kali, Soubin acts as Prakash, friend of Dulquer’s character. “As the previous one, it is a comic role. But when it comes to the film, we cannot compare Kali with Darwin, as both come under different genres,” he says. Soubin says Crispin in Maheshinte Prathikaram has garnered him good reviews from all-age audiences. “Crispin has much impact among the audience — from kids to adults. I am getting good reviews for the funny dialogues and the Kummattikka song from viewers, and I think this role has gone above that of PT sir in Premam.”
When asked why he is always selected for comic roles, he says, “I don’t know the reason, but almost all roles which came to me were humorous ones. I wish serious roles would also come to me soon.” For now, the actor is all set to join the sets of his mentor Amal Neerad’s new film.
