Ladoo is a fun thriller

Director Arun K. David says the film has all the ingredients of a good romantic comedy.

What are the ingredients of a good rom-com? A cheerful storyline, charismatic leads and a lot of fun. Right combination of these three factors is the key to the success of a romantic comedy movie. And that’s what we have in store in Ladoo, says Arun K. David, director of the upcoming movie. The first-look poster and the trailer had hinted that it would be a fun-filled film.

“Ladoo revolves around a day’s happenings. A bunch of friends are on their way to a Registrar’s Office on their van and the journey changes the course of their lives. Everyone can relate to the incidents that happen in the film. We all are familiar with college love, break-up and marriages in the Registrar’s Office. This film has it all. It is a fun thriller,” says Arun.

The director says that when screenwriter Sagar completed writing the script, they wanted to make it a TV series. “I was so keen on making a romantic comedy series. But when we approached the production company, we learnt that the number of viewers for a TV series in Kerala was very small compared to other states. Even the number of Netflix and Hotstar users is small.” So they decided to make a feature film after making necessary alterations in the script. Firstly they needed to turn the story into a more realistic one, says Arun. After many discussions, they finalized the script.

Ladoo boasts of a stellar cast with Vinay Forrt, Balu Varghese, Shabareesh Varma, Saju Navodaya, Dileesh Pothan and Bobby Sinha in key roles. It will hit the theatres on November 9.

Though this is Arun’s directorial debut, he has worked with the likes of Rajeev Ravi. He also scripted the social satire Masala Republic, which was released in 2014. “My previous experiences really helped me in directing Ladoo. Working with Rajeev Ravi in Ivan Megharoopan as his assistant and in Dulquer Salman starrer Second Show helped me a lot. I got a great start and I was working on some short films when I was offered to write for Masala Republic. In all these movies, I got the opportunity to work with great professionals.”

Arun has completed his studies in filmmaking. He is hopeful of directing more movies which have his mark on them.
