Slow and steady

Actor Gokul Suresh believes in build a strong foundation before delving deep into the industry.

Gokul Suresh doesn’t want to divulge more details about his role in a movie prior to the release. He wants the audience to watch it in theatres and give him genuine feedback. And he admits that he is open to criticism. “Social media is a good platform to collect feedback,” opines the two-film old actor. His first movie was Mudhugauv, a rom com. Later, he was seen alongside Mammootty in a crime action thriller Masterpiece. The latest is Ira, a crime thriller directed by Saiju S.S.

He says that each movie has been a different experience for him. “I didn’t get any negative responses for Mudhugauv. After the release of Masterpiece, many have told me that my acting in Mudhugauv was more free. It helped me realise that I am a director’s actor,” says Gokul, who plays a doctor in Ira.

“The character’s name is Aryan. The movie discusses a good theme. It is a love revenge saga that emphasises the sanctity of love. I will not reveal more about the character,” he adds. “Thriller is a genre most audiences like. There have been many movies in this genre. Each one had a unique point. Ira will satiate all those who love the genre,” he says.

The shooting of Ira was completed in places such as Pooyamkutty Forest and Kollam. Gokul had a 30-day schedule. In Ira, he will be seen with Unni Mukundan and Niranjana Anoop.

The actor, who considers himself as a beginner, would like to try his hand at all genres. “That is because it would help me understand my strength and weakness in each genre. While doing a movie, we might think that we have done our best. But it is always up to the audience. They should like our performance. Also, experimenting with different genres would mould the actor in me,” says Gokul.

Gokul, who ventured into acting in 2016, has acted only in three movies. Is he trying to be choosy? “More than what we choose, what chooses us matters the most. I am not very choosy. At the same time, I don’t want to choose movies just for the sake of acting. So far, I have done only one movie a year. This year, I may take three or four projects. Not more than that. I am not in haste. I want to build a strong foundation for my career,” he sums up.
