Actor Unni Mukundan files case against woman for extortion

The case was registered under sections 385, 506 and 34 of the IPC for putting a person in fear or injury in order to commit extortion.

Kochi: The Kochi city police has started a probe on a complaint lodged by actor Unni Mukundan against a woman accusing her of indulging in blackmailing and extortion attempts. According to cops, the incident pertaining to the case took place on August 23 last. "In his complaint, the actor stated that the woman, a native of Ottapalam, had approached him with a request to read out a screenplay. Though she reached the actor's rented house at Edapally, the actor refused to entertain her upon finding out that she had not completed the script," the police said.

The actor further claimed that the woman again contacted him over phone and threatened to file a police complaint against him for rape. Later, a man claiming to be an advocate called up the actor and demanded him to either marry the woman or compensate her with Rs 25 lakh. The actor first lodged the case at Ottappalam and the complaint was later shifted to Cheranelloor police station. The case was registered under sections 385, 506 and 34 of the IPC for putting a person in fear or injury in order to commit extortion.
