Malayalam actress abduction: Amma, other film bodies expel Dileep
Kochi: All the leading organisations of Malayalam film industry, including Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), on Tuesday, expelled actor Dileep after his arrest and remand. An emergency meeting of the available members of AMMA executive committee at the Panampilly Nagar home of Mammootty took the decision removing its treasurer. “As always AMMA will stand by the victim and provide all support and help to her,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
AMMA also expressed regret over a few members making insulting remarks against the victim and warned stringent action against them. Mammooty, accompanied by Mohan Lal, Prithviraj, Remya Nambeesan, Devan and Asif Ali, also tendered an apology to journalists for the misbehaviour of some AMMA members with them after general body meeting held here a few days ago. On the steps taken to remove criminals from the industry, the star said it was not possible for an organisation to subject every individual to scrutiny. He, however, said it was a shame that criminals existed in the industry and offered a revamp of AMMA if required.
Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) cancelled the membership of Dileep in its directors' union. FEFKA president Sibi Malayil and general secretary B. Unnikrishnan said the guilty should be awarded maximum possible punishment under the law. The newly formed Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) removed the actor in jail as its president. A new president will be selected in a week, they said. Kerala Film Producers Association followed suit.
