Kozhikode: The film “Pulimurugan” starring actor Mohanlal was a big hit. During this Vishu Festival season, once again “Pulimurugan” is going to be a major hit. And that is because firecrackers named after Pulimurugan are going to be the highlight. “The film was a superhit in Malayalam, so firecracker manufacturers at Sivakashi used the same name for the cracker,” said Udaya Shanker, the Ayyans cracker dealer of Kozhikode. Pulimurugan is called a digital cracker as it creates a digital 3D effect when it is fired.
Nearly 1000 Mallapadakam or chain firecrackers are closely packed and when fired create beautiful sparkles and sounds in the sky. Factoring in the safety aspect, many new crackers have been launched and of them, nearly 30 are exclusively meant for kids. To name a few are the Rio wheels, kiddies joy, pop- pop and pizza hut cracker. With these firecrackers which are of lesser intensity compared to the others, kids can fire them even when not being supervised by adults.
Mr Uday added, “At Sivakasi, workers are sent to China which is among the first countries that started creating light and attractive crackers, and learn the nuances of making them and come back and manufacture them here. These firecrackers have sold like hotcakes here and are safe, bright, light and can be fired even on the terrace.” The other major highlights of this year are Chendamelam- box crackers, gold spinners, honeybees, crazy bees and sizzling flowers, which create flowers in the sky when fired.
