A Find of Prashant Pillai
The trailer of Prithviraj-starrer Darwinte Parinamam, which was released on YouTube on Thursday, has already garnered over one lakh views and it’s still counting. While one might be engrossed in the fast-paced visuals, it would be hard to miss the equally-gripping background score. On further research into the cast and crew of the film, the name Sankar Sharma will be marked next to music and background score.
Who is Sankar Sharma? The last time you must’ve seen his name is as the vocalist of ‘Spirit of Amen’, the song from Lijo Jose Pellissery’s musical Amen. Sankar entered the film industry as a music programmer.
It was composer Prashanth Pillai who realised that there is more to this young boy from A.R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory and tagged him along as a music programmer for Amen.
“It was Prashanth Pillai who introduced me to the industry. After that, I’ve worked with Ouseppachan sir. I was working on the background score of Double Barrel when I got the offer to work on the music of Darwinte Parinamam,” says Sankar in between his recording session.
On Darwinte Parinamam, he says, “I’m very happy with the reviews we are getting for all the songs. Nakul Krishnamoorthy, Harichandran, Vijay Yesudas and plenty of other new singers have lent voice for the songs.”
“While working on Darwinte Parinamam, I also got the opportunity to compose for Avarude Ravukal starring Asif Ali and Unni Mukundan,” says an absolutely grounded Sankar, who is also pursuing his final-year graduation in English Literature from Sree Kerala Varma College.
Asked about the pressures of working in the music industry, he says, “So far, I’ve had got chance to work with really good teams. They have given me absolute freedom when it came to creativity. And I do not feel any pressure.” Sankar who is inspired by Rahman and Prasanth Pillai says, “I am not scared. I am happy to go with the flow and create good music.”
