Destiny brought Gayathri Ashok to the tinsel world. She had no plans to try her hand in acting, but ended up giving an audition for the role of heroine in Ladoo. Since its trailer launch, the upcoming comedy-suspense thriller has been promising to be a perfect entertainment package, and Gayathri can’t wait for its release.
“Attending a film audition itself was a great experience for me, let alone getting selected and acting in it as heroine. It was through a friend that I came to know about the audition and at first I was hesitant because I was not confident. But as always my family supported me, especially my mother. She asked me to give it a try. ‘At least you will get to know how it is done,’ she told me,” says Gayathri.
“So I decided to give it a go. There was a three-phase audition and screen test. I thought they would not select me. But a few days later, on a Vishu day, I got a call from director Arun sir saying that I have been selected for the role of the heroine. I cannot describe how I felt at that moment. Even now, I am speechless,” she adds.
Gayathri’s character, Angelin, is a very loud, naughty girl who gets angry at everything easily. “Though I am not angry as Angelin in real life, I could relate to her character,” laughs Gayathri. “I always get crazy at home for silly things and I could see that kind of nuances in the character. And I am a bold girl like Angelin. So, yes, it was relatable.”
Gayathri, who works as a graphic designer in a multinational printing company in Chennai, is very much interested in art. She loves painting and designing. Since she had no experience in acting, she underwent an acting class in Chennai which mainly focused on theatre. “The classes were really good and helped during the filming of Ladoo. Also, Arun sir arranged a 10-day grooming session prior to the filming.”
Gayathri, a Kannur native, says she was a bit nervous during the first few days as she was a novice. But she adds that later on, her co-actors helped her out and supported her well. “Ladoo has a stellar cast including Vinay Forrt, Shabareesh Varma, Balu Varghese, Sharafudheen, Dileesh Pothan, Manoj Guinness, Saju Navodaya, Nisha Sarang and Sayana Sunil in key roles. I feel really lucky to make my debut with those actors who are all very supportive.”
The movie will hit the screens on Friday....
