Actress Nithya Menen who is debuting soon in Bollywood in Akshay Kumar’s Mangal Mission opened up about the #MeToo movement. The Mersal actress says she is against sexual harassment, but she has a different way of countering it. She chose not to be a part of a group as she prefers to fight it ‘silently’.
“I completely understand the thing that people are facing. I do everything possible to counter it (abuse). Just because I am not doing it one way, doesn’t mean that I am not countering those things or I am not against it. I am, but I have a different approach,” the soft-spoken actress revealed in an interview to a news agency.
She goes on to add, “I believe that my way is only through my work. The way that I work and the kind of things that I do, the way that I approach people when I am working, all of this give a strong message to people that I am working with, and to people who are watching my films”.
Nithya had not joined the collective of Mollywood stars who had come together after the kidnapping and assault of an actress ordered by an actor became a big issue. The actress who prefers to play the lone warrior against sexual assaults disclosed that she had walked out of a few films when she felt uncomfortable working with a few people.
The intense actress will be seen playing legendary Savithri in NTR Kathanayakudu, the biopic of legendary actor and former AP Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao. She has also been roped in to essay J.Jayalalithaa, former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, in her biopic titled The Iron Lady, directed by Priyadaarshini.
“In the past also, I was offered plenty of Hindi films. I just wanted to be as choosy with Hindi as I was with films in other languages that I have done. I wanted it (debut Hindi film) to be a really nice film. I found this a nice character. I don’t think we have done a film like this… you know, a space film,” Nithya said. She also went on to reveal that she is doing a Malayalam film on an athlete before she would be slipping into the role of Jaya.
“The film on Jayalalitha is very heavy. I was very impressed when the film’s director Priyadarshini came with the film to me. She was so focussed. I told her that if we are doing a biopic, we should ensure complete justice to the character. She was going in the right direction and was extremely confident. I am really looking forward to do that film. That will be interesting to explore as an artiste,” she concluded....
