A Malayali girl, born and brought up in Gujarat, she decided to try her luck in Malayalam cinema. Though not professionally trained, she was confident in her skills as a dancer.
Saranya Anand, who started her career in Mollywood as a choreographer, says her young but growing career has been wonderful.
As she awaits her new film Thanaha, in which she plays the lead role of a police officer, she believes has done justice to all the roles she has been offered.
From a dance choreographer to a movie heroine, Saranya has been taking the right steps at the right time. In her debut movie Cappuccino, she shared the screen with the likes of Dharmajan Bolgatty. “It is the story of a bunch of youngsters who run an ad agency named Chappa. The shooting days were filled with fun. The story was about contemporary new-generation life,” says Saranya. “I was so thrilled when I was offered a role in the movie,” she adds.
For Saranya, acting is not her only love, instead, she considers dance to be equally important too. A participant at school festivals, she represented her school in many events. “I entered the film field through dance choreography. I did choreography for a few Malayalam movies like 1971: Beyond Borders.”
Though her acting career is only one-year-old, Saranya has acted in 10 films, including popular movies like Akasha Mittayee, Achayans, Chunks and Chanakya Thanthram. She says acting alongside talented people and dealing with versatile roles are key to any actor’s success.
Since her role as a police officer in the movie Chanakya Thanthram starring Unni Mukundan in lead role, she has been getting similar bold roles. “In my upcoming movie, Thanaha too, I play a police officer. But it was challenging,” states the actor who doesn’t want to be typecast.
As she came to the cinema with no acting experience, she says everything was new to her. But she never had any problem getting adjusted to the industry. “I was not expecting such a warm and friendly experience and I was not that confident. But to my amusement, they were treating me like they knew me for years. All of my co-actors were supportive and sometimes gave some useful tips to help me,” adds Saranya.
She is very excited and feels her family and friends supported her in everything too. Based in Kochi, she is thrilled about Thanaha. The movie, directed by Prakash Kunjhan Moorayil, will hit the screens in mid-July.
