Anju Kurian had just finished a meeting before answering the phone. So was the meeting about her next movie project? She laughs and says, “Oh no, I work as an interior designer, here in Chennai.” For those who have not yet watched Kavi Udheshichathu, Anju is the actress who plays Asif Ali’s heartthrob in the movie.
Yes we have seen her before in Om Shanthi Oshana and Premam, but this is the first time she will be essaying a prominent role. She says movies were never in her wildest dreams. “I never thought I will act in a movie. It just happened. I got a good offer so I thought I’ll give it a try.”
Anju is one of the lucky few actresses to share screen with some of the leading actors of Malayalam film industry. Kavi Udheshichathu has Biju Menon, Asif Ali and Narain in the lead. “The experience was really great. I was very tense and nervous in initially, but they made me feel really comfortable. Even Asif ikka was like a brother to me, he gave me many tips. Since I am a newcomer they helped me a lot.”
Speaking about the character she plays Anju says, “I play Jasmine, who has returned home after studies in Bengaluru and she is Asif Ali’s love interest.” Is the character similar to hers in real life? “No, there is very little similarity between me and Jasmine.” She is right now elated at the good response after the release of the movie but she is yet to watch it. “I haven’t even come to Kerala after the release. I thought I’ll come after two days.” Anju who hails from Kottayam, is basically a model and has also stepped into Kollywood.
“My first project was in Tamil and I got my Malayalam offer while doing it.” How does she juggle between being an interior designer, a model and an actor? “I’m able to manage all this because I am working with my friend.” Before winding up, she says excitedly, “I still cannot believe I was part of this wonderful movie and its crew.”
