Kalabhavan Mani death: DGP seeks action on lab for leak

The actor's brother Ramakrishnan had alleged that he suspected foul play in Mani's death.

Thiruvananthapuram: Director-general of police T.P. Senkumar has urged the government to take disciplinary action against the officials of the chemical lab at Kakakanad, Kochi, who examined the internal organs of actor Kalabhavan Mani.
The leakage of the chemical report had derailed the probe, he said.

The lab had announced that insecticide containing toxic chemical chlorpyrifos was found in the internal organs of Mani and that it had led to his death. The police has also registered a case against the chemical lab and joint chemical examiner Muraleedharan Nair, who shared the details of the medical tests with the media.

The Director-general of police T.P. Senkumar said that joint chemical examiner Muraleedharan Nair’s action was serious breach of discipline and that the lab authorities cannot explain the cause of death.

Mani, 45, who had hosted some friends, had allegedly consumed liquor in their company on March 4. He was admitted to a hospital in Kochi in a serious condition. Mani, who was allegedly suffering from a liver ailment, died two days later. The actor's brother Ramakrishnan had alleged that he suspected foul play in Mani's death.
