From spoilt kid to the rani of Mollywood: Nikki Galrani

Her parents wanted Nikki to be a doctor, but she chose the glamour route. Recently, she was identified as the most googled celebrity of south

The first time Nikki Galrani appeared in 1983, many wondered who this ace beauty was. She instantly conquered the hearts of Malyalis with her natural performance and viewers felt that she is here to stay. But Nikki reveals that she never had a plan to stick on, but when she chose to act, there was no looking back. Recently, the actress gained the title of the most Googled celebrity down the south and Nikki is thrilled about it.

“I feel really good; it is not like I have been in the industry way too long. It has just been about three years, but I could do a lot of movies and has topped that list of the most-Googled celebrity. I just feel loved. This motivates me to do more and better movies. It gives me that kick to perform better,” an excited Nikki says. Acting was nowhere in the dreams of the pretty actress, who calls herself a ‘spoilt kid’.

“I was never apprehensive of the industry but during my school or college days, I never had plans to enter the film industry. I was a science student as my parents wanted me to be a doctor, but I just discontinued my Science course. As I had this craze for clothes, I joined fashion designing, but I didn’t see myself making a profession out of it. I just took life as it came. Later, I started modelling and two advertisements came my way.”

“In a span of 10 months, I did about 45 ads — national and local. One of those ads got me the offer to act in 1983. It has been almost three years now, and I have done 23 films. I think I am more than blessed,” says the bubbly actress. Nikki’s next big release is Team 5 — one of the most anticipated releases of the year as it marks the debut of cricketer Sreesanth as an actor. For Nikki, the movie is very special as Sreesanth is her childhood friend.

“I knew Sree since we were kids though he hates it when I say it,” laughs Nikki. “He is my sister's friend and I knew him since high school. Never have I thought that Sree would debut with me. I remember him telling about his plans of entering film industry long back. Team 5 is an emotional and adventurous script. It is a different experience to work with someone whom you have grown up with. I think he is focused as an actor and I believe he will do well,” she says. Nikki reveals that she has five projects in Tamil in the coming year, confirming that she is here to stay.
