She breathes dance

Actor Anjali Verma a.k.a Dakshina on her first ever upcoming Bharatanatyam performance Nrithyopasana in Kochi.

Anjali Verma sounded very confident yet grounded while saying though she has a huge liking for Malayalam cinema, she is more inclined towards pursuing her present career as an engineer as it took a great deal of hard work for her to make a career in the field. However, her affinity towards art and movies did not allow this professional Bharatanatyam dancer to stay away from the limelight.

Her confidence and looks gained her the Miss Malayali Worldwide title in the 2013-event hosted by the World Malayali Council. This was followed by an offer for the lead role in Balachandra Menon directorial Njan Samvidhanam Cheyum. “It was Balachandran sir who gave me the name Dakshina,” says Anjali, who is all set for a Bharatanatyam performance in Kochi on July 9. She has also done a pivotal role in the yet-to-be-released Evide Ee Nagarathil.

Quizzed on why she is not actively involved in movies, Anjali a.k.a Dakshina says, “I work in Thailand and I really love what I do. And movies are a matter of luck. Therefore, I do not want to leave the country and the job that has given me everything I want and try my luck in something that may or may not work. But I definitely love to work in movies and want to set a balance between my work and cinema, if I feel more are challenging roles come my way. Moreover, I am also a professional dancer and give stage performances for Samarpana Dance School, Thailand, which is owned by my guru.”

Anjali, who seems to be a perfectionist, is all focused on her performance Nrithyopasana — a programme she is doing in association with her guru’s dance school at A.J. Hall, Kaloor. Being her first performance in her homeland, she has lots of expectations from the crowd and feels Malayalis value real talent and therefore are great critics as well.

“I am very well aware that the crowd in Kochi will be entirely different from that in Thailand and that is the biggest challenge for me. I have been learning Bharatanatyam since I was five and it would be my greatest achievement if I give a full-on performance here in my hometown and receive applause,” she adds.

This talented Malayali beauty from Thailand wishes to visit Kerala often with her performances and also hopes to have a future in Malayalam cinema if good roles come her way.
