It has been around two weeks since his compositions for Tovino Thomas-starrer Godha reached social media sites and are getting good comments from music-film buffs. Shaan Rahman, who composed the tracks as well as the score for the movie, is overwhelmed by the response.
Shaan points out that it was in the end of 2015 that he became part of this film. “I knew Basil since the days he joined as an assistant of Vineeth Sreenivasan. So when the story of Godha got locked, he came to narrate it to me. The first thing I asked him was if there was enough space for songs. Basil is a person with good humour sense and he replied, ‘In fact, this movie has more space for songs than anything else’.”
“That comment really recharged me and that power enhanced my work to a next level for this movie,” he says. Normally the release date for the film is finalised even before it gets announced. So when the shoot or dubbing get delayed, the time to complete background score gets reduced. But Godha is the first film for which I got maximum time for composing score. I should thank the makers of the film for that. When I saw two sequences, I asked Basil for one month time and he granted. But gladly, I could complete it in 15 days,” says Shaan, who is currently in Chennai for the recording for the ‘mega’ project is his career - Lal Jose’s Mohanlal film.
An excited Shaan shares the story behind how became part of the project. “Though I have associated with his production house for many films, this is for the first time I am getting a chance to compose tracks for Lalu sir’s directorial. It was my dream to work with him. One day, producer Vinod Shornur called me and inquired if I was busy with projects and I told him about my commitments. On April 8, he called me again and asked what my plan was for the day. I said I was going for Dhyan Sreenivasan's wedding. Suddenly he popped the question - was I willing to compose for Lal Jose's next film with Mohanlal in the lead? I was numb with surprise like Innocent sir's character who won the lottery in the movie Kilukkam. It took me a few seconds to come to my senses and say ‘yes’,” he laughs.
Shan skipped the wedding function and went to meet Lal Jose. “He narrated the screenplay and gave me five wonderful situations for songs. Lalu sir said he would give me enough time to compose and that I should give all songs in one week. I didn’t even feel that I was working with a senior director. He made me that comfortable. And it is my first Lalettan project,” says Shaan.
