Therottam is another newbie venture
It’s spring season for Malayalam cinema. A lot of newbies are coming to the industry, both in front of the camera and behind it. As a result many groundbreaking movies are being made. Therottam, yet another movie by a group of debutants, is gearing up for release and director Pradeesh Unnikrishnan is all hopeful of his debut.
The movie is produced by Sanjeev Janardanan, who is very passionate about films. “The specialty of Therottam is that it has around 40 debutants in front of and behind the camera. Sanjeev chettan always wanted to make a good movie and he conveyed the wish to me once. So, the movie eventually developed and finally, our dream is going to hit the theatres," says Pradeesh. The movie was shot in a budget of Rs 30 lakh in 30 days’ time.
Pradeesh affirms it was a purposeful move to have debutants in the movie.
“I and the producer are debutants. Sanjeev chettan put forth the idea that our movie should be full of debutants. It has given opportunity to many who were dreaming to get into cinema. So, if the movie works out well, it will really benefit all those who are associated with it.” Coming to the story of the movie, he says, “It is about four friends. One among them has a sister and she’s loved as their own sister by the other three. So, when she faces a difficult situation, these four friends stand for her and do many deeds to overcome the situation. This gets them into some troubles, too.” Azhar Mohammed, Antony Francis, Rony Joseph, Jayas Reji, Harilal, Aishwarya Prashanth, Vineetha and Rajeev Ramachandran play the central characters in the movie.
The actors were selected through audition. Above 100 persons attended the audition, and from them they selected the cast. Pradeesh asserts that it took some time for the cast to get into the skin of the characters. Once chemistry was developed among them, the shooting was so easy and comfortable. The script of the movie is written by Redhu Krishna. “Women’s safety is one issue which is greatly discussed these days. The script has social relevance and deals with some current topics, too. The four brothers are ready to go to any extent for their sister.”
Pradeesh affirms that the movie will be a full-on entertainer with right amounts of comedy, action and sentiments. “I really hope the movie will be a treat to the audience. It was a great opportunity for all who worked with us. I thank our producer, cast and crew.”
The movie is expected to hit the theatres soon. However, Pradeesh has already started the work of his next project. “It will be a college-based story and a complete entertainer. Hopefully, the work will begin as soon as Therottam is released,” he signs off.
