Shashi Namboothiri will be a character familiar to a lot of us. We would have seen him tricking people in little ways to make a name for himself. This fellow here is an artist and would present works of fine arts students as his own. Somehow it is easy to imagine actor Sreenivasan play Shashi, given he had once convincingly become the deceptive Saroj Kumar in Udayananu Tharam and the fraud Vishwanathan in Mukunthetta Sumithra Vilikkunnu. Director Sajin Baabu decided Sreeni will be the hero of his new film Ayaal Sassi, coming two years after the critically acclaimed debut Under The Dusk.
“This one is a commercial venture, a comedy, unlike my first film. Why? Because your films should be different, shouldn’t they?” asks Sajin, who got cinematographer P. Sukumar and producer Sudheesh Pillai to bankroll the film. “Sreenivasan has been very good in the film, he has lost some weight too,” says Sajin. Other actors are Kochu Preman, Anil Nedumangad and there is Divya Gopinath who played a role in Kammattipadam. Cinematography is by Pappu, who has worked in films like Njan Steve Lopez. The film which has finished shooting is expected to release in January.
