An actress from Mumbai debuting in Mollywood does not call for even a cursory raise of the eyebrows anymore. The audience would have lost count of the number of other industry actresses trying their luck in Mollywood. Add another name to the list- Hinal from Mumbai who is debuting in the Sajid Yahiya’s IDI.
Even if her name is not familiar, Hindi serial buffs would know some of her characters. A singer, a model and one of the seven finalists in a beauty pageant, Hinal had two reasons for choosing to start her career down south — her acquaintance with director Sajid Yahiya and the insistence of her Mumbai Malayali friends.
She says, “Even though I was modelling, singing and acting in serials, I was also auditioning for Hindi films. Since I was brought up in a convent school, I have a lot of Malayali friends who suggested that I try Mollywood.” Soon she got the IDI offer and she gushes, “I never thought I would do a Malayalam film but I did! Since I am a singer, I love singing in different languages and I thought it would be good to try out a different language — one which is admittedly difficult to master. The happiest lot are my Malayali friends.”
Language too was not much of an obstacle, reveals Hinal. “Thanks to my friends, I can understand Malayalam to a certain extent and can also talk a fair bit. However, on the first day of the shoot, I found it difficult to understand the accent since Malayalis speak very fast. Since I knew a few words, I could understand some dialogues and the rest, I asked around. After some time, I got the hang of it. The production people were very helpful,” she remembers.
Hinal plays the role of sub inspector Zarina Rawuther, a suspense character in the film, and she does not want to reveal more. “I want the audience to go watch and then judge my acting. Sajid is a good friend and Jayasurya is an amazing co-star. I never got the feeling that I was acting in my first film.” She has signed up for another Malayalam project which will see her playing three different stages in life, a movie Parchaayi and a Hindi movie too.
