Swayam is about autism, football and Ayurveda

Noted filmmaker R. Sarath would bring that real life story to the big screen with his new film called Swayam.

The mother doesn’t sit crying about her autistic son. She acts bold, discovers the talent in him — he’s good at football — and encourages him to excel. But when he suffers a knee lock, their life changes.

Noted filmmaker R. Sarath would bring that real life story to the big screen with his new film called Swayam. Lekshmipriya Menon plays the bold mother who raises her 12-year-old on her own — and hence the title.

“She had no issues playing the mother of a 12-year-old,” says Sarath, who chose to set his film in Germany.

“It is about a German Malayali family who later comes to Kerala, following the boy’s knee lock, for Ayurvedic treatment. And in Kerala, they suffer the social stigma attached to autism,” she reveals Nimay who is a good football player, plays the autistic child.
