Actor Mammootty inaugurates photo exhibition
Thrissur: “More than the beauty of the frame, the value of news in a photograph is relevant for news photographers,” actor Mammootty has said. He was inaugurating a three-day news photo and video exhibition of photographers and videographers organised by the Thrissur Press Club at Sahitya Akademi Hall here on Saturday. The exhibition has been named ‘4G: The Fourth Gender.’
The actor, who is known for his interest in photography, said that the usual way of taking a snap is to ‘focus and click,’ but in news photography it is ‘click and focus.’ “News photographers take the picture in a split second and then finds the news angle in it. Now, a new technology is in place to first take the photograph and then focus further on the captured picture,” he said. At times he gets upset with news photographers due to the concern for his privacy, he said.
The organisers chose the name ‘The Fourth Gender’ to protest against the recent assault on mediapersons at Kerala High Court and Vanchiyoor court in Thiruvanathapuram. Some of the lawyers had also placed posters calling the mediapersons ‘the fourth gender.’ Press Club president Santosh John Thooval and secretary K.C. Anilkumar were present at the function. Some rare photographs clicked by news journalists in Thrissur and the clippings shot by video journalists here have been put up for the show which is free for the public.
