I was never gone: Poojitha Menon

Poojitha Menon, who debuted with Nee Ko Nja Cha in 2013, will be acting as Biju Menon's heroine in the upcoming Swarna Kaduva.

She was anchoring a popular show in a Malayalam channel when she got the call to appear as one of the heroines in Sunny Wayne-starrer Nee Ko Nja Cha, which hit the screens in 2013. Though the film did good business in the box office, Poojitha Menon, who essayed Ann Mathews in the film, was not seen in many mainstream films. Now, the actress is back in action with Biju Menon’s Swarna Kaduva, which is all set for release.

Poojitha says she has been in the industry since Nee Ko Nja Cha. “But I had not acted as heroines in any mainstream film after my debut.”

“The only film with me as the lady protagonist which reached theatres was Maramkothi in 2014. Apart from these two, I was part of five films, including Ohm Shanthi Oshana and Arikil Oraal in supporting roles,” says Poojitha.

When it comes to Swarna Kaduva, Poojitha acts as Biju Menon’s wife. "It was through associate director Chackochan, who had worked in Maramkothi, I got the call to this film. I was called to enact the wife of Biju ettan’s character. I found it completely different from my roles so far. And I was not ready to miss a chance to work with screenwriter Babu Janardhanan sir, director Jose Thomas sir and Biju ettan,” she says.

Poojitha points out that she had missed a few projects in the three years. “I entered the field as an anchor. Though I like to do films, I still do anchoring. So owing to anchoring commitments, I had to say no to some films,” says Poojitha.
Quizzed about her future projects, she says, “As of now, I have not committed to any films. I am waiting for the release of Swarna Kaduva. But I will definitely do more films, if I get interesting roles.”
