KOCHI: The Aluva Rural police which investigated a case on a directive by the Kerala High Court on Friday arrested advocate Sarvanathan, 47, for cheating Tomichan Mulakupadam, the producer of big budget Mohanlal film Pulimurukan, to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore. The police said the accused, son of Sadanandan of Pazhavelil Veetil in Koratty, hatched a conspiracy with his brother and brother’s wife for selling a 21,000 sq ft villa at Madhurappadam near Chengmanad to Mr. Tomichan, a non-resident Indian businessman for 6 crore.

After collecting Rs 3.5 crore from Mr. Tomichan, the accused created a document stating that the said property was sold to a political leader for a meagre Rs 12 lakh. The police, however, declined to reveal the name of the political leader, who contested as a candidate of a political party in a Lok Sabha seat in Palakkad district and lost. The investigation team has found that the advocate, his brother and wife had joined together to sell the property for Rs 6 crore to a person in Thrissur. The advocate’s brother and wife then left for the US. Aluva DySP Y.R. Rustom headed the probe while Chengamanad SI Gopakumar arrested the accused.
