The awe of sharing screen space with Mammootty
KOZHIKODE: After her shoot with Malayalam actor Mammootty, it is for the first time that Anjali Ameer is coming to her native land. She is the first transgender model from Kozhikode, who has posed for several nationally and internationally acclaimed magazines including Wow. She was in the city as a celebrity guest for the 3-day international short film festival organised by the Oriental Film Society on Thursday at Oriental film Institute here. Anjali’s film with Mammootty “Peranbu” is expected to hit the silver screen in the first week of May.
Sharing her experience of shooting with the megastar, Anjali said, “It was in Chennai that the entire film was shot. The best part of the location was that everyone in the set considered me a normal human being, which is a first of its kind experience in my life working in the entertainment industry.” She added that it was the most “horrifying” experience, when one of the directors of a television programme fired her from the job, after she revealed that she was a transgender.
“It’s indeed the best moment of my life when Mammukka himself suggested my name for the film. He’s a great acting mentor,” she added. She said that she had shared her experiences with the film students who gathered at Oriental institute to hear her talk. It was in January 2016 that Anjali underwent surgery to become a woman.
