Kozhikode: The film festival season has no end in Kozhikode. Movie buffs are awaiting two late entries with an excellent package of offbeat cinemas. The Oriental Film Society's three-day fest opened here on Thursday. Apart from short-films, it features critically acclaimed films at 4 pm, and Thursday was the day of the Oscar-winning Iranian movie ‘The Salesman’. On March 3, ‘I Daniel Black’ directed by Ken Loach will be screened.
Some 40 films are screened at the Oriental Film Institute near Arayidathupalam, and the delegate fee is Rs 100; and Rs 50 for students. Come March 6, and the city will witness the commencement of five-day Women’s International Film Festival, jointly hosted by Film Festival of India and Chalachitra Academy. On the show are 30 films, all directed by women, including 11 foreign movies. The films include ‘Hush! Girls don’t scream’ (Iran), ‘Three dots’ (Afghan), ‘In darkness’ (Poland), ‘Kiragoorina Gayyaaligalu’ (Kannada) and ‘Manhole’ (Malayalam).
“Daily there would be the meet-the-director programme. We are bringing many women directors to the venue like D. Sumana Kittur, Vidhu Vincent, Sreebala, Shyni Jacob Benjamin to name few,” said festival director Deedi Damodaran. The fest will premiere the film, ‘Nadiyude Moonaam Kara’ directed by Fouzia Fathima. On the international women’s day, there will be more programmes to interact with women directors and other crew members. Rs 200 is the delegate pass for the five-day fete.
