Death threats are not new to Jayan Cherian, he gets them almost everyday. But now he has a unique threat – mentioning the word fatwa. Filmmaker Jayan Cherian, who's made Papilio Buddha and Ka Bodyscapes, have been in a lot of controversy, with both his films banned, or denied a certificate. Jayan had fought a lot to get the Kerala High Court order asking the Censor Board to issue a certificate for Ka Bodyscapes, but the board has still not obliged. Now, a man called Chandra Mishra has posted on Facebook about wishing to ‘kill him or issue fatwa against him’ for portraying Lord Hanuman as a homosexual.

The film in fact portrays a gay character who worships Hanuman. The post adds, “Do not use religious figures just to prove some point. How easily communists use Hindu religious figures, right? Can they do the same with others?” Jayan has shared the post on his timeline. “I am getting a lot everyday, now it is normalised,” he says.
