Charlie's angels!

Dulquer and Parvathy who bagged the Kerala State Film Awards 2015 for Best Actor and Best Actress share their joy with DC.

DULQUER owes it to his Charlie team

As we reached his house at Panampilly Nagar in Ernakulam, Dulquer Salmaan was all set to leave for Thiruvananthapuram to join the sets of Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipaadam. Dulquer, who was responding to the calls and messages he has been receiving since 12 pm after he had been adjudged the best actor of 2015 for his performance in Charlie, was very relaxed even though he was overwhelmed with the response from his friends and well-wishers.

Dulquer, who was wearing a yellow and black check shirt, welcomed us to the drawing room of the house, which has already witnessed the arrival of seven Kerala State awards bagged by his father — Superstar Mammotty. “It’s a very happy moment for me as I was not expecting such an award. Another factor which makes me happy is that I got this award for my performance in Charlie, which has bagged many other awards too,” he says.

The actor points out that the state award jury’s decision would encourage the youngsters in the M’town. “Almost all the award recipients are youngsters. This sort of backing would help us to come up with more and more good projects as well as performance. In a way, such recognitions inspire us to work hard to give better output,” he says, adding, “I think the team work of the whole crew of Charlie helped us bag these awards. The happiest factor is that I was selected for the award for my performance in one of my favorite films.”

Suddenly, the door opened and his close friends — actors Sunny Wayne, Greogory Jacob and Shani, walked in with a bouquet for their close friend, who bagged his debut state award. Their entry was a huge surprise for Dulquer. The friends hugged him and handed over a bunch of roses and then posed for a photo.

When they went up to the second floor, he continued. Will this award make him selective? “The award cannot make me selective; because I am already selective,” he quips, adding, “I am still doing films after listening to the scripts and understanding whether it is a better one. I think this award would help me choose more character-oriented projects,” he sums up.
