THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two blockbuster films --‘Charlie’ and ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’-- cornered all the top prizes in the 46th state film awards except for the best film award won by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Ozhivudivasathe Kali.’
Martin Prakkat’s ‘Charlie’ was the jury’s preferred film bagging eight of the 31 awards in the feature film category, including best actors (Dulquer Salman and Parvathy), best director (Martin Prakkat), best script (Unni R and Prakkat), and best cinematography (Jomon T. John). R.S. Vimal’s ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ bagged the award for the popular film with aesthetic quality, besides six others.
Parvathy and Jomon T. John won for their work in both ‘Charlie’ and ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen.’ Manoj Kana’s feature on endosulfan victims, ‘Amoeba,’ won the second best film award. For the second consecutive year, Jayasurya was engaged in a photo-finish for the best actor.
Last year, he was the favourite to win the best award for his performance in ‘Apothecary’ but Nivin Pauly pipped him to the post. This year Jayasurya almost made it for his performance as a stammering man in ‘Su... Su... Sudhi Valmeekam,’ but Dulquer’s “stylised act’ carried the day.
Composer Bijibal has scored a hat-trick. He has won for background score for the third time in a row, this time for ‘Pathemaari’ and ‘Nee-Na’. Composer and Hindustani exponent Ramesh Narayanan has bagged the best music director award for the second consecutive year. If last year he had won for ‘White Boys,’ this time it is for ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen.’
His daughter Madhushree Narayanan won the best singer honours for her rendering of the songs composed by her father in ‘Edavappathi.’ Veteran P. Jayachandran was adjudged the best male singer for his songs in ‘Jelebi,’ ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ and ‘Ennum Eppozh- um.’
