Organisations should not act as judges: Salim Kumar

Every organisation is meant to solve problems. But most of the filmmakers\' bodies act like a judicial board.

A few more people have come forward in support of actor Shane Nigam, who has been caught in controversy for the past few days. Salim Kumar, who has been notable for his say on issues in and out of the film industry, has spoken in support of Shane and also advocates the association to give him time and measures to correct himself if he has done anything wrong.

Shane was involved in a dispute between the director and producer of his upcoming movie Veyil, which took an ugly twist when he marched out of the sets and later posted a photograph on his on social media handle in which he was seen embracing a look contrary to the one he was asked to maintain for the movie.

Salim Kumar started his plea to everyone involved in the controversy on a Facebook post stating, “This is not a post calling for any controversy”. He wrote: “I am also a member of the organisation. Organisation leaders should not act as judges and make a decision without looking at the matters that are as crucial as this.

Every organisation is meant to solve problems. But most of the filmmakers' bodies act like a judicial board. If there is law, then there is law for everyone equally.

Organisations should not take their position and power for granted. Because Shane Nigam has the right to live and work as we do.” He concludes a lengthy post by saying that organisations and collectives should work to make things better. Cinematographer and director Rajeev Ravi had also come out in support of Shane, who was banned by the Producers Association on Thursday for not cooperating on the movie sets.
